Thoughts

I only just found this memory page and so am sharing something I posted last year on Facebook “Three and a half years ago I wrote an post on a large local Facebook group asking for advice as I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. A few lovely ladies contacted me and shared their stories and experience with me. One in particular messaged me regularly, answering my questions with unending patience and humour. She was about to undergo her own mastectomy and talked about it all in such an upbeat and matter of fact way she took a lot of the fear out of the situation for me and was an inspiration in how she dealt with it which certainly made my own experience easier to handle. She was incredible - fitting more fun activities into every week with her young family than most of us manage in a month. Breast cancer wasn't going to define her or rule her life. Unfortunately at her 6 month check - cancer was discovered in the other breast and she underwent the identical treatment again - chemo, mastectomy, radiotherapy - just a year after she first faced it. In between treatment she was still running around enjoying life as much as she could - being there for family and friends and creating more memories than most of us could imagine. However, once breast cancer spreads, it is incurable and today I learnt that this brave lady died last Thursday aged only 34. Please ladies - #checkyourboobies and attend your smear tests. Don't let cancer go undetected. And please take a leaf from this wonderful lady's book and be sure to live every day with your family to the full. RIP Kim.”
